Judy will demo watercolor. Perfect to pack on a trip, a way to bring your sketches to life. A light, clean medium to record impressions on the road. Lunch will follow and time to work.
Signature Artist Steve BonDurant will show us how he plans a painting by doing a value sketch and using that plan and underpainting to suffuse his oil painting with light. This demo will also be followed by lunch and an afternoon of painting. Techniques also apply for acrylics and pastels.
Signature Artist Dick Kane will demonstrate use of palette knife techniques to create convincing edges and texture. Dick will demo with oil paint but you can use acrylic paint. After Dick's demo, we will provide lunch and after lunch we will work on our paintings.
Refreshments will be served and awards will be announced. Invite your friends and family!
Learn the method of painting on copper in this one day workshop with Copley Master Mikel Wintermantel. The elegant surface of the copper plate lends itself to Wintermantel's luminous, indirect, layer by layer approach to landscape painting. Painting plein air on copper is a unique method that is surprisingly easy to do. The result is a radiant, glowing painting created with very expressive strokes of the brush preserved on the smooth surface of the metal.
You will learn how to prepare the surface, apply the oil paint using several interesting techniques unique to copper.
Every aspect including how to mount and frame the copper painting will be covered. Copper paintings stand the test of time. It is one of the most stable substrates in the art world. Small 4"x6" copper panels will be provided for the participants. (For acrylic painters, a similar method will be demonstrated using copper metallic paint on a gesso panel. These panels will also be provided.)
Lunch is also provided, and the workshop is open to all GVPAP members, for a non-refundable fee of $10. Check your email for details.
