About the Show:
GVPAP has been working on this historical landscape project for about a year now. This past season, artists have traveled throughout the region, from Niagara Falls, to the southern tier and througout the Finger Lakes, painting on site landscapes, cityscapes, structures and 19th Century buildings that are historically important and built in the 1800's or before. The historical subjects are painted as they appear today. These paintings include themes and locations such as the Erie Canal, 19th century industrial and rural life, farms, the war of 1812, etc. Of course, we have been painting extensively at the Country Village this year.
This past year, we have had over 60 paintouts (on site painting sessions); most of which are themed for this unique plein air show at the Museum. We will continue throughout the fall, winter and early spring painting "en plein air," on site, to prepare for this historical landscapes art show. We have paintouts weekly. Our members will produce about 250+ paintings to be judged and juried; resulting in an art show of about 125 paintings or more. Artist and educator Alan Singer will be our judge. In addition to the historical art show, members of GVPAP will be involved in programming throughout the Museum's 2008 Season. We plan on plein air painting demonstrations, panel discussions and educational talks for the public and members of the Museum.
Please check back often for updates as well as paintout photos.
